Interior shutters are a great investment for your home’s interior. They are made of natural or faux wood and feature a rigid frame. You control your amount of light and privacy by tilting solid louvers. The view with interior shutters is exquisite as you can open them completely when you want a full view of the world around you. They are also cordless, so a safe choice for homes with pets and young children.
Will They Last in My Busy House?
Yes! Many consumers today are looking for eco-friendly purchases and Hunter Douglas interior shutters will last 10-20 years or longer. Shutters are one of the longest-lasting window treatments as they are permanently affixed to your window. This means they will not come loose with frequent use or use by active kids. There are no flexible slats to bend or pull apart. In fact, they are the only window treatment that will add value to your home as they are viewed as a permanent part of the structure.
Installation Process
Because they are permanent fixtures, installation of interior shutters does take longer than other window treatments. They can be mounted inside or outside the window frame, and a panel attached to the shutter frame with hinges to allow the shutters to open and close. Shutter Maintenance
Maintenance for interior shutters is minimal, especially if you opt for a faux wood variety. To clean, use a microfiber cloth and tilt the louvers upward. Wipe from the top to bottom, reverse louver direction and repeat. Keep in mind that faux wood is more resistant to moisture and so is a better choice if your shutters will need frequent, or deeper cleanings. Natural wood is not moisture resistant so spot cleaning only is suggested for shutters made of authentic wood.
